When You’re Paddling Upstream

Sometimes life seems as if we’re canoeing upstream without a paddle.  Everything seems hard. Rocks appear to block our path. No forward movement is made. Exhaustion and fear take hold.

Sound familiar? If so, I invite you to try a new perspective. Consider one of these:

Change streams
Do an about face
Switch boats
Portage your canoe
Set up camp
Notice that “it’s not your journey to make”

Which perspective offers freedom?

Gratitude for what will be

Gratitude is a powerful force. Full appreciation for what has been leaves one in a state of awe.

Imagine for a moment, gratitude for what will be. Vision some aspect of your life purpose fully realized. Give your vision depth and color, energy and strength, life and impact. Be with your vision. Notice all the qualities in you and your life which are both in your vision and already present. Express your gratitude for the ways in which this vision is manifesting now. Express also gratitude for the intention, desire, and trust that you bring to this vision fully realized.

What are you grateful for today?

The Universe is out to Support You!

“Around the bend, in the unseen,
arising from the very uncertainties that may now seem to taunt you,
there are some amazing surprises awesome twists,
and spellbinding coincidences about to emerge that you can’t even now imagine.”

A Note From the Universe by Mike Dooley

I’m sharing this with you today because the effects of this universal truth have been SO prominent for me recently. If you’ve never thought about this before, take a moment. Have you really planned and foreseen each step in your life journey? Big things, little things, imagine:

  • The parking place that opened up as you rounded the corner, running late…
  • There is a new doctor in town who specializes in the area of medicine that you need now…
  • Of all the people in the world, you were present to meet your mate at that specific time and place – five minutes later and he would have been gone…

There is so much that we don’t control. Continue reading “The Universe is out to Support You!”

How … can I be here now?

ItsTimeBreakFree4By6

In our busy, active, full lives, often we find ourselves not only going non-stop but juggling multiple responsibilities at the same time. Picture yourself talking on the phone while emptying the dishwasher and gesturing to your child that you want him to get busy with his homework. Or maybe your attempt at getting it all done resembles eating while standing up and between each bite you are folding laundry and watching TV. Sound familiar? Moreover, the idea that you could do “just this” seems both wasteful and impossible!

If any of this sounds like you, and if just maybe you’d like to try something different, read on. I cannot begin to explain the value you will receive by practicing the art of “be here now”, fully present to “just this”, energetically focused on one thing. That is for you to discover! Here are a few ways to begin your journey toward that discovery. With any of them, especially if you find yourself resistant, experiment in short segments – one meal, 10 minutes, 5 breaths.

  • Single-task. If you are eating, eat, taste each bite. Folding laundry, fold. Notice the colors and texture of the fabric.
  • Breathe. Just stop what you are doing, close your eyes, and take in five deep breaths.
  • Gift your attention. With your next conversation, stop thinking. Give your full attention to the person who is speaking to you. Give the gift of deep listening and rapt attention. Hear what they are saying and sense the deeper meaning underneath. Give without judgment and without planning what you’ll say in response. Be curious and maybe ask questions. Most importantly, give the gift of your 100% presence.
  • Channel your thoughts. If your mind is the busy body that multi-tasks, try focusing on just one thought, one idea, one affirmation or encouraging message and repeat it over and over:  I am here now. I am fully invested in making this project a success. I am grateful.

What do you discover with “just this”?
What is the impact of your practice?
What is possible if you expand “just this”?

Multi-Dimensional Living Part II

Still with me? If you didn’t read the first tidbit on this topic, here you go!

Multi-Dimensional Living

This tidbit seeks to add just one idea.

How could belief in your multi-dimensional awareness impact your relationships?

I am working with this answer:

If I want to live in a way that lets me explore life from infinite perspectives, that has me acting like a child in one moment and receiving messages from spiritual beings the next …

If I want to deepen and expand my spiritual beliefs one day and the next day finds me fighting for time to exercise and clean my house …

Then I need to believe this for you also! You are navigating in a multi-dimensional reality. You and I might be on the same plane … and we might be in worlds far apart where any attempt at connection and communication is challenging at best, impossible at worst.

What is possible from here?

For me, what is possible is that I can easily choose compassion and understanding for you, acceptance and tolerance of our human disconnect, when I imagine us to be fellow travelers in a multi-dimensional Universal existence.

Again I ask, what about you?

What relationships in your life could benefit from multi-dimensional awareness?
What would acceptance, tolerance, compassion and understanding bring?
What idea works for you?
