The Paradigm Shift

Sometimes, even “new software” isn’t the answer. Sometimes the shift that Life is asking us to make is as drastic as shifting from PC to Mac (yes, this would be drastic for me!) or:

  • leaving the typewriter behind to use the computer
  • dropping your land line and using only cell phones
  • the Pony Express to the U.S.P.S to e-mail

Or maybe the shift is from intelligence and reason to intuition as your primary guidance system. The paradigm shift can be scary, uncomfortable or painful. Its potential impact on other aspects of the world around us – enormous. Yet, sometimes refusing to take the leap of faith is even more painful or destructive.

Where is Life asking you to leap?
What can you vision on the other side?

Let the vision be your courage! Enlist your support team and jump!

Time For New Software

Then there are those times when the old program has outlived its usefulness and it’s time for something new. Perhaps you were once a Word Perfect user who is now fully invested in Microsoft Word. (Yes, I know some of you spent decades releasing the typewriter for the computer!)

Take a look now at your life – thoughts, activities, relationships.

What thought patterns are not congruent with who you are now?
What activities no longer serve you?
What relationships, formed by a different you, are perhaps detrimental?

 Where is new software needed?

Software Reconfiguration

Sometimes we need more than a reboot, a rest followed by starting over. Sometimes the situation calls for a software reconfiguration in order to avoid insanity:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” – Albert Einstein

With a current challenge in mind, ask yourself:

What am I repeating over and over – unsuccessfully?
What  are five other choices I could make?

Pick one and do it.

From Responsibility to Playfulness … YES!

Awhile back we started this journey. And I asked:

Are responsibility and playfulness mutually exclusive?

Four demons later, I am here to answer with a resounding, NO! I’ve had so much fun, been fully in a playful spirit, creating these blog posts for you just 72 hours after I DON’T WANT TO showed up.

What if we dared to play through life?
What if work was play?
What if our playful spirit did the work?
What if delight was the norm?

I believe the journey is all about reigniting our playful spirit, the one we were born with and which never leaves us. Truly, it only goes underground waiting for each opportunity to burst into laughter and joy, to giggle with delight, to be exposed to sunshine.

Will you play with me?

On the road from responsibility …

… to play. Really? Are these mutually exclusive? If so, then I am destined for a play-less future because I have a very strong responsibility streak. I choose to believe they can coexist. And I’m here, in these next few posts, to share some of the demons that are getting in my way as I explore the topic of play.

Can’t help but notice the rhyme, the playful rhyme, that just rolled off the finger tips! If you missed it, that’s okay but you can return and find “way” and “play” in that last sentence!

Demon #1: Time

Did you take the time to go back and speak aloud that sentence until it rhymed for you? Did you play with the cadence until it worked?

Why not?
What stopped you from playing for a moment?
Was it a perceived lack of time?
