Asking for help

Do you ask for help? Or do you think you *should* be able to *do it alone*? Here’s the thing. We all need and receive help in so many ways each and every day. If you are working with a coach, you are helping yourself by receiving coaching. Your coach, by the way, is receiving from you also! Every session is an opportunity for growth – on both sides. So, first thing today is this:

What will you ask for help with?
Who will you give the opportunity of helping you?

What is your leadership style?

You ARE a leader. Do you know that? We all are. Everyone of us leads – and follows. Messages of leadership are all around us. With the holiday season around the corner, I am reminded of the story, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. If you haven’t watched this holiday classic every year since 1964 as I have, here is a link so you can catch up:

Rudolph and Clarice

As you think about leadership, consider how you lead at work, in your family, in your own life. Let Rudolph give you some things to think about with these questions:

  • Where are you hiding your unique leadership style? (like Rudolph hiding his nose)
  • Where does your leadership douse another’s light? (like Santa and Donner forcing Rudolph to wear a false nose)
  • Where does your leadership style exclude another? (like Coach Comet)
  • Where are you support for another’s growth? (like Clarice)
  • Where are you courageously breaking off from the tribe to be your (misfit) self? (like Hermey the dentist)
  • Where are you leading others to their truth? (like Yukon Cornelius supporting Hermey and Rudolph)
  • Where do you stand up for the misfits? (like Rudolph)
  • Where is your leadership strong, bright, powerful?
  • What will have you “go down in history”?

Giving Thanks…

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. And gratitude, the practice of awareness around the blessings within and around us, is very powerful. This day, whether you are alone or with family, working or watching football, healthy or ill, eating turkey with all the trimmings – or not – pause. Take a moment to ask:

  • How is my life blessed in the area of relationships?
  • What do I have to be grateful for in my family?
  • What talents and skills do I possess for which I am truly grateful?
  • What can my healthy body do that another’s cannot?
  • What possessions, from the roof over my head to the car in the garage to the decorations in my home, gift me with joy and ease?
  • What ideas have others written about that am I grateful for because they support me in living fully, purposefully, joyously?

What’s on your gratitude list? How rich are you?

The Blank Slate Perspective

STOP! How often when making decisions do you listen to that insessant, confusing, projecting, self-reprimanding conversation in your head? Pretty exhausting, huh? The next time you aren’t sure which way is the right way, consider:

  • First, there very well may be more than one right way, more than one good option.
  • Second, you can try a few different options before settling on one that feels right for you.

And lastly, consider the blank slate. Honor yourself, your knowledge, your creativity, your inner guidance enough to imagine the situation from the blank slate perspective. If I started from scratch, how would I do it? Go ahead! list every awesome, wild, wonderful, crazy, horrible, phenomenal idea you can muster! Then ask yourself:

What will I do THIS time?

Where is your focus?

What you focus on expands. Perhaps you’ve heard that before, perhaps not. But, think about it for a moment. What is looming large in your awareness right now? What gets your time, money, energy, thought, focus? As you give it your valuable resources, does it grow or shrink?

The real question, of course, is this: Am I focusing on what I want to expand in my life?
